So as you all probably know, the Pack is playing the Panthers this week. This means Cam Newton, rookie QB for Carolina, comes up against Dom Capers’ Packers defense.
There is a good possibility that Newton will do well, considering in his NFL debut he threw for 422 yards with a 64.9% completion rate and two touchdowns. With the exception of his one interception, those are damned good numbers for a QB’s first NFL game. We have to remember, though, that he was playing against the Cardinals, whose defense is not ranked high in the league.
Dom Capers, on the other hand, aside from having a freaking awesome name, is known to consistently have one of the best defenses in the league. This is his third year in Green Bay and he and the Packers defense are really starting to vibe.
There are some questions about whether or not Tramon Williams, one of the Pack’s best cornerbacks, will be able to play on Sunday, considering the bruised shoulder he suffered against the Saints. McCarthy has hope that he will be able to play and, without him, many of Capers’ plays in the nickel defense will be limited.
Another plus for the Pack, though, is the injury of Carolina’s right tackle, Jeff Otah, who got a concussion in last week’s game against the Cardinals. This means that undrafted rookie Byron Bell will be playing against Clay Matthews, what a way to start an NFL career, no? That boy’s gonna have some stories to tell (probably ones like, oh yeah… I kinda never stopped him…)
All in all, I am definitely looking forward to watching the game tomorrow. I think it’s going to be a great game to watch offensively. I am looking forward to seeing what Cam can do against Dom and see who really doms. Oh snap!
Peace.
